Farm life is a simple life. This doesn’t mean that the day isn’t hard work. In fact, life on a farm or ranch can be very challenging, which is why we don’t like to clutter up our lives with a bunch of useless stuff. What I mean is, even though we love our hand tools and power tools here in Texas, but we don’t necessarily need all of the bells and whistles.
This is why I like to buy tool sets at an online tool store and keep them around the shop for times when I’m not sure what kind of tools I’ll need until I find what’s broken. I keep tools sets for both hand tools and power tools, this way I’m prepared for anything without having to spend all that extra money on needless tools, nor do I have to drive fifty miles into town to the big tool store where I can’t find anything anyway. If you’re like me, and don’t have time to deal with driving across several counties for power tools, then checking out tool sets online will help you put your focus where it’s needed most, on the family farm.
It’s often that I see plumbers and do-it-yourself handy men alike at work on the pipes with their hand tools. There is something that I noticed professional plumbers doing with pipe wrenches often that the do-it-yourselfers could benefit from as well.
This simple trick is carrying keeping around pipe wrench sets around the house. Since the pipes around the house can range significantly in size, such as heating pipes compared to tap water pipes, carrying around a pipe wrench set will always be of great benefit. Not only do you have all the pipe wrenches you need when you need them, you don’t have to bother going to the store four times to adjust four separate pipes. Pipe wrench sets can be picked up at any hardware store or online tool store for added convenience, which will also save gas money in your pursuit of quality hand tools.
The pipe wrench was originally created by Solymon Merrik in 1835 which was an enlarged adjustable wrench with a long handle. The patent for one of the most successful hand tools however, was not granted until 1869 to a man named Daniel C Stillson. This is why the pipe wrench is also referred to as the “Stillson wrench”. Stillson went from door to door trying to turn his patent into a success, but to no avail, many doors were slammed in his face.
It wasn’t until Stillson brought the pipe wrench to the attention of Walworth, a company that that had manufactured heating pipes, that the idea picked up momentum. He pointed out that they could use the pipe wrenches to tighten their large bolts on the pipes. It was the particular design of the pipe wrench that allowed for the rocking back and forth motion to assemble the pipe fittings. The pipe wrench functioned by digging the teeth into the soft metal of the pipe which tightened when pressure was applied. The owner of the Walworth’s liked the idea, and after Stillson made a functional prototype, it was a huge success. It’s estimated that Stillson earned over eighty thousand dollars in royalties from his pipe wrench patent before he died.
Today, the pipe wrench is widely used in construction, especially in plumbing. This is why the pipe wrench is also referred to as a plumber wrench. Pipe wrenches are usually available is sizes ranging from 10 inch all the way up to 48 inch face openings. There are two types of materials that are used to manufacture pipe wrenches: steel and aluminum. The particular advantage to using aluminum hand tools, is primarily because they are significantly lighter than steel hand tools. This rule applies even more so for pipe wrenches because they can get quite large in size. Pipe wrenches can be purchased at any large tool franchise, but more conveniently and competitively priced at most online tool stores.
Shopping to many of us, can be a real drag. This is especially true for people shopping for power tools for other people such as a gift for the holidays, simply because they know nothing about tools. This is understandable. Not everyone is a power tools aficionado. Some of us don’t want to ask that certain someone either because they feel it will ruin the surprise.
A work-around to this is to check out an online tool store. Buying power tools can be very easy online because there’s no huge parking lot or lines to deal with like at a big tool store such as lowes. People always seem to find what they’re looking for while shopping at an online tool store for their tool supply needs, as opposed to walking down huge isle after huge isle in search of something they’re not familiar with. All these reasons, plus saving the time and gas, are all the reason’s you may ever need to be a part of a rapidly expanding community of online tool store customers
I’m the kind of guy that likes to browse the forums, do-it yourself sites, tool blogs, power tools catalogs and well, just about anything having to do with tools. While on one of my journeys through cyberspace a few years ago, I was looking to buy a saber saw. I noticed that there was plenty of information on them, but no where to buy them in an online tool store or anything. As you may or may not know, “saber saw”, is a variation, and thus, a common term for “sabre saw”. There are numerous manufacturers of these types of saws such as Skill Tools.
What I didn’t know about the world of power tools back then, was that the saber saw is professionally referred to as “the reciprocating saw”, which is a reference the blade, which moves in a reciprocating (back and forth) motion on the front of this hand-held saw. This is why I couldn’t find it in a search in an online tool store. I am finding however, that there some tool stores that call it a saber saw, I just have to do a bit of digging.
The way things are heading now with the economy, just about all retail markets are effected. For instance, people looking to buy power tools these days are less likely to head down to a mega-super-big tool store to find what they are looking for, and more likely to buy from an online tool store In fact, it’s speculated that online sales in all markets are going to increase expansively in 2010.
Another reason tool shoppers are turning to an online tool store for their tool supply needs, is because they’re looking for great values on power tools. An example of such a value is reconditioned tools, which are previously defective and repaired name brand tools, which you can only find on an online tool store, and not at a big tool store like hope depot. I find it very convenient not having to try and find a spot, then park in a stadium-sized parking as well. You can’t beat shopping at an online tool store, because you don’t even have to get up your favorite chair, and everything you need is just a click away!
